For aircraft configurations that require two or more of the same part to be installed, users can satisfy the requirement by installing either the main part specified in the P/N A/C Configuration window, or any of its interchangeable parts. By default, the system will accept an intermix of both the main parts and interchangeable parts on different positions to satisfy the aircraft configuration requirement. However, in cases where an intermix is not acceptable for certain positions on the aircraft, a Position Group can be defined to ensure that only multiples of a single part (main or interchangeable) can be used to satisfy the requirement; the system will prevent an intermix of both main and interchangeable parts. The following two examples will illustrate how the Position Group feature limits part installation in cases where multiples of one part are needed for an aircraft.
Example 1: Without a Defined Position Group This aircraft type/series' configuration requires two identical parts to be installed at two different positions. Note that these two positions are not part of a Position Group.
The part that is required in this configuration has a both-way interchangeable part, which could potentially be used in place of the main P/N to meet the requirements.
As of now, the main P/N is already installed at one of the two positions on the aircraft. The user has an available Interchangeable part in the Inventory that could potentially be used in place of the main P/N to satisfy the configuration requirement.
The user attempts to install the interchangeable part at the other position on the aircraft. Since no Position Group was defined for these two positions, the system allows for the intermixing of both the main P/N and its Interchangeable P/N.
Example 2: Using a Position Group This aircraft requires two identical parts at two different positions. Note that a Position Group has been defined in this example.
The user has defined a both-way interchangeable for that part.
As of now, the both-way interchangeable P/N is installed at one position on the aircraft. The main P/N is available in Inventory, but installing it alongside the both-way interchangeable P/N would create an intermix.
The user attempts to install the main P/N at the other position on the aircraft. However, due to the Position Group, the system prevents the installation. The parts installed at those two positions have to be the same P/N.
The system will only allow for the same P/N to be installed at the other Position.
The user could use either two of the Main P/N, or two of the Interchangeable P/N in this example. The only restriction that the Position Group imposes is that both parts need to be the same P/N, not an intermix of a Main P/N and an Interchangeable P/N. |
