Do W/Os require Authorization?

Depending on you company's operating procedures, Work Orders can be configured to require authorization.

If authorization is not required, then you are Ready to Create W/Os.

If authorization is required, then the following configuration must be set up:

  1. From the Authorization Step but_authorization steps (small) button of the W/O Priority transaction code, authorization steps must be defined for the W/Os with that W/O Priority code. Each step must be completed by users from the selected Department or from the selected Authorization Group. For details on how to set up these steps, refer to the W/O Priority.
  2. From the Work Order Authorization Group Explorer, the members of each Authorization Group can be defined. Only these users will be allowed to authorize the step for that group. For more information refer to the Work Order Authorization Group Explorer.
  3. In order for the W/O Authorization process to work, Production switch WOATHREL must be set to Yes. When set to Yes, the W/O Priority field is mandatory and the W/O Status is set to Pre-Auth upon creation. When a Priority with required authorization steps is entered, those authorization steps must be performed. For more information refer to switch WOATHREL.

Note: Once a Work Order is created, Pre-Auth Work Orders must go through the authorization steps. These steps are completed through the Work Order Authorization Explorer. Once all steps are completed, the W/O Status changes to Open. For more information refer to the Work Order Authorization Explorer. For an example of the authorization steps, refer to the W/O Authorization Process.

Once the authorization requirements have been set up, you are Ready to Create W/Os.

This decision pertains to the Work Order Process.
